2022 Interior Design Trends

2022 is here and we are so inspired by some of the design trends that are already popping up in the new year. We met up with BDX Interior Designer, Cecilia Gonzalez for her take on what to expect in 2022. Cecilia is an integral part of our media team, helping our builder clients to hone in on a design style in their virtual tours and renderings that are both awe-inspiring and click-worthy. Here are the trends that she expects to be center stage for 2022.

Focus on multifunctional

Multifunctional areas have become essential now that our rooms have changed into office, classroom, or indoor gyms in recent times. We've become adaptable and flexible. One of the benefits of learning how to take advantage of the space is that it allows the design to be more intentional and can improve the way your clients experience your home.

BDX Tip: Offer your clients multiple views of how a flex space can be used to spark their imagination. Interior renderings or virtually staged photographs can showcase this aspect of your home designs.

Nature-inspired Interiors

Indoor gardening is still enjoying a surge in popularity. Creating a visual connection with nature can help us bring a sense of calm to our homes. Moreover, a study published in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology found that active interaction with indoor plants can reduce our stress levels and increase feelings of well-being.

BDX Tip: Try experimenting with adding hanging plants or easy-care greenery like Sansevieria, Ficus, or ZZ plants to your model homes or merchandise your renderings with the addition of plants. They will be sure to catch buyers’ attention! You can also embrace this style using landscape color palettes with furniture and decor in natural materials.

Organic Shapes and Curves

The furniture industry continues to embrace soft, curvilinear forms. These pieces bring a lot of personality to a space, and the rounded edges help soften the room creating a soothing ambiance. You can also find a reflection of this trend in home decor and lighting.

Color Trends

We're seeing a shift towards colors found in nature—especially greens. These kinds of colors set the tone for a relaxing and calming environment.

Here's what to expect, according to some of the leading paint brands, like Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, and Behr:

Colors that promote tranquility and harmony

Botanical hues with a range of subtle neutrals

Vibrant tones to promote individuality

Use of almost black hues that help anchor the space

It's exciting to explore new design trends. Let them inspire you to create a unique design style that works best for your client’s lifestyle and reflects what is truly meaningful to them.
