Animated Gifs and Email

Everyone seems to be making good use of their email database these days. The market is on fire right now and it’s the perfect time to grab the market share from used home shoppers because for the first time ever, used home inventory is low and more and more home shoppers are moving into the suburbs.

There are a few things you should know when adding an animated gif to your email campaigns. As with all email, web browsers and email clients render emails differently and some email clients like Outlook don’t render gifs at all, but that’s still no reason to include it. Outlook will use the first frame of the gif instead so you will still have a still image in its place. The good news is that popular email clients like Gmail render animated gifs. While you are at it, we highly recommend adding emojis too! You can read all about emojis in marketing here. In this time of social distancing, an emojis can serve as a smile and a friendly face that could give your open rates an added boost when placed in your subject line.

Email marketing platforms like MailChimp and Constant Contact probable have size limits on the images that can be used so it might be better to use html to add it to the email so that you can host the image in your media gallery or on something like Google Drive. Below is a snippet of code that we used to add it to our email. To repurpose it simply upload your image in the media gallery on your website or Google Drive, copy the url and replace the url in red in quotation marks below.
