KHP Homes is all about family. They are a multi-generational, family-run builder that specializes in smart, green custom luxury homes for customers in the Tampa, Florida area. So, when the opportunity to help a growing family build their dream home came along, they jumped on it.
In 2020, KHP had the good fortune to be asked to participate in a series on HGTV called 100 Day Dream Home. Hosted by a husband and wife duo, who serve as the developer and designer, the show helps clients both design and build their dream home in less than 100 days.
For KHP, this provided a new opportunity to take their unique, green, and energy-efficient design using Steel Structural Insulated Panels (SIP) and build a semi-custom home at a lower price point. Unlike homes built with wood, SIP was ideal for a 100 day turn-around because of the precision and planning that goes into building a home.
In anticipation of the airing of the show on February 22, 2021, KHP looked for ways to improve its digital presence. Having seen BDX at the IBS show for years, KHP’s Director of Business Development, Falgoon Patel reached out to BDX in December of 2020. While initially interested in Matterport Tours, Falgoon quickly realized there were many BDX products including Envision, BDX’s Online Design Center, that would fit their needs. He asked for a follow-up call so that KHP’s owner, Khamir Patel, could also be present.
Because of the holidays, a follow-up call was not scheduled with Khamir until January. But to say it went well is an understatement – the call lasted over six hours and included demos of everything from Visualizer to Envision to SEO and websites.
Before the call, the BDX SEO team had evaluated KHP’s current website. What the SEO team did not know, however, was that KHP was in the process of constructing a new website through a family member in India. After being given a preview of the new site, the SEO team provided some valuable feedback to KHP. And while KHP had no intention of changing direction, the call quickly made them realize the complexity of building not only a great builder website but one that had all of the inner SEO workings to generate traffic. On January 30th, they gave the BDX team the green light.
There was just one small hurdle – the BDX website and SEO teams had less than three weeks to complete both the website design and SEO coding so that the site could be launched in time for the airing of the 100 Day Dream Home episode on February 22nd, 2021
BDX’s WebExpress product was ideal for the situation because of the built-in review functionality where Khamir could go into the staging site and directly make comments and edits. This expedited the process and removed many back and forth hurdles for both parties.
Then on February 7th, things got even more interesting. Khamir got a call from HGTV that their episode had been moved up one week – to an airing date of February 15th! That meant that the BDX team had only one more week to complete the entire website – design, infrastructure, integrations, and SEO coding.
For seven days, the BDX website and SEO teams were heads down. In the end, they met KHP’s deadline and launched the newly redesigned website before the airing of 100 Day Dream Home. This included:
- Reorganizing KHP’s content to make it more intuitive and showcase its green, energy-efficient capabilities
- Integrating with KHP’s CRM system
- Redirecting over 500 URLs
- Coding the backend pages meta descriptions and title tags, as well as frontend keywords and phrases for SEO
“We couldn’t be more thrilled for KHP’s exposure on HGTV. They are a dream client,” said Kayla Johnson, the BDX Engagement Manager for the project. “Khamir and his team were responsive to every request, providing us the files, images, and anything else we needed to keep their website project moving. Plus, being able to communicate through our WebExpress platform was a lifesaver. We can’t wait to continue to work with KHP on future projects!”
The 100 Day Dream Home episode was a huge success and showcased Khamir’s passion for building green and energy-efficient homes. Not to mention the family is in love with their new home!
KHP is thrilled with the new website and motivated to continue to improve its digital footprint including adding interactive floor plans. And even though they build under 25 custom homes a year, KHP is also investing in Envision, BDX’s premier online design center. They are particularly interested in the collections feature that Envision offers which packages design options and helps home buyers visualize finishings within a home.
