C A S E S T U D Y | J O H N W E I L A N D H O M E S Baby Boomers The number of Americans ages 65 and older is projected to double by 2060, and their share of the population will rise from 15 to 24 percent. They are demographically diverse, but some of the trends worth understanding include more active lifestyles, higher retirement ages, and the desire for "aging in place" features in the home. Urbanites, Renters, and Millennials Many of today's urban dwellers and renters are Millenials (ages 18-34). They have been slow to enter the home buying market, sidelined by high unemployment, student loan debts, and tight credit. Yet, with an estimated $200 billion in annual spending power and a projected $10 trillion in lifetime buying power, they have considerable financial muscle that has yet to be flexed in home purchasing.
