BDX’s Tim Costello Issues Builders "A Call to Arms" on Technology at 2017 TecHome Builder Summit
Start offering home control and connectivity as standards NOW and prepare to ride the next, bigger wave of value coming with artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things!
Builders who are not already offering strong home control and connectivity features in their homes are behind the curve and need to dive into home technology products and services to catch up with homebuyer expectations and demand. Builders need to make that move to get into position for a next wave of technology-enabled value headed consumers’ way thanks to emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and Internet of Things. Such was the powerful message delivered by Builders Digital Experience (BDX) CEO Tim Costello, keynote speaker at the fourth annual TecHome Builder Summit, Dec. 4-6 in Phoenix, Ariz.
The Summit hosted the 235 tech strategy leaders from North America’s top high-volume, luxury and multifamily builders and featured 103 sponsoring companies ranging across categories such as home automation; AV and security; smart lighting and electrical systems; smart HVAC and IAQ; kitchen, bath and laundry tech; and smart water technologies.
In his 40-minute address, Costello reviewed both the historical challenges and recent successes of homebuilders with technology, pointing out that today’s homes may offer integrated control and connectivity but lack the intelligence and broad functionality that would make them truly smart. He challenged builders to differentiate themselves from existing homes by thinking outside the box with technology-makers and service providers to deliver value that is orders of magnitude higher than today’s systems offer.
"Tim’s talk was an informative and inspiring call to arms for builders on technology," said AE Ventures president John Galante. "He made a compelling business case for builders’ full embrace of home technology, imploring them to accept the challenge of staying up to speed on technology and forming partnerships with technology-makers, services providers and subcontractors to deliver transformative value. AE Ventures stands ready to be the resource for builders and their trade partners to get that work done, both with our TecHome Builder Summit and our regional TecHomeX events."
